Background

Four Rivers had been growing steadily for 16 years when, in 2006, they recognized their install base was beginning to push the limits of their hosting strategy. "We were outgrowing our hosted servers," says Justin Lauck, Software Engineer and IS Specialist. "We were spending thousands of dollars a month and eventually reached the point where it was more cost-effective to switch to colocation."

Solution

Four Rivers interviewed five colocation providers before they chose Ascent Data. "Location was key," says Lauck. "We wanted a data center securely located beyond downtown Pittsburgh but close enough to be easily accessible. We wanted certain credentials, too – SAS 70 Type II compliance, resilient power and UPS systems, and strong security. Ascent Data provided them."

According to Lauck, the overall layout and design of Ascent Data’s facility is another advantage. "We have a lot of prospective clients fly in to see the data center. Other data centers have generators and UPS systems, but they don’t show well. Ascent Data is impressive looking. It definitely makes a positive impression on our prospective clients."

Looking forward, Lauck foresees continued success with Ascent Data. "We’re very happy with our colocation solution.
