Network Engineer

Ascent Data, a leading data center operator and managed services provider, is seeking an experienced Network Engineer. This position is responsible for the day-to-day operations of various network equipment and for ensuring that the network infrastructure is secure and that the correct network products are in place to meet the company needs.

• Installs, maintains, configures, and troubleshoots network equipment in support of customer requirements
• Assists with capacity planning studies to determine future network infrastructure requirements
• Assists with the design and implementation of a secure network infrastructure to support the needs of multiple customers
• Assists with the implementation and maintenance of security monitoring tools and facilities
• Supports the implementation of Information Security Policies, Procedures, and Directives
• Assists with the design and implementation of network infrastructure to provide disaster recovery support
• Evaluates and recommends networking equipment and strategies to support Ascent Data's current and future needs
• Interacts with external telecommunications services providers
• Supports ongoing information security assessments, evaluations, and audits
• Conducts research and development on current and future technologies relevant to Ascent Data and its Clients
• Assists with the design and development of various Application Hosting Models to meet the needs of Clients
• Consults on various projects and proposals
• Works with clients on needs assessments, GAP analyses, and the development of project requirements
• Works closely with other business and technical consultants to prepare proposals and presentations for clients and prospects
• Stays current with trends in the application of technology to Ascent Data target markets
• Travels as required to perform the duties of the job
• Documents maintenance and support procedures for routine and complex tasks
• Participates in a 24x7 on-call support rotation and off-hours maintenance windows as necessary
• Frequently lifts, carries, or otherwise moves and positions objects weighing up to 20 pounds when setting up equipment
• Extensive knowledge of routing protocols including BGP, OSPF, EIGRP


The successful candidate must possess the following:

• 5+ years experience as a Network Engineer with at least two years supporting a highly available 24x7 environment
• Experience in on-call environments
• Effective problem-solving skills, organizational skills, and detail orientation
• Proven analytical skills
• Ability to multitask
• Must thrive in a collaborative and team environment
• Highly productive in all organizational environments in which previously associated
• Ability to effectively resolve customer support issues for customers with a wide range of technical capability and experience
• Bachelors Degree in Computer Science, Electrical and Computer Engineering or Information Systems, or related field preferred
• Certifications such as CCNA,CCNP, CISCO Specialist Certifications
